A “Hall of Fame” proposed for Mackay Airport is set to honour some of the many great sports stars, past and present, who hail from the Mackay region.
Mackay Airport General Manager, Rob Porter, said there is an opportunity for the whole community to get involved in this exciting initiative.
“Our display at the airport will instil a sense of pride among the locals and show our visitors some of the amazing sports stars to come out of our region and perform at the top level in their chosen field,” Mr Porter said.
“In the initial phase of our Mackay sports stars Hall of Fame we are looking to identify the six most popular stars, as nominated by the people of Mackay.”
“The Mackay region has produced so many sporting greats who have represented us at the state, national and international level in a huge range of sports from athletics and cycling to basketball and rugby.”
“The hardest thing is going to be narrowing it down to just six. That’s why we’ll be putting it out to the people of Mackay to decide.”
Mr Porter said that over the coming weeks the airport will release the details of how people can make a nomination.
“The six sports stars with the highest number of nominations will be the ones featured in our display, providing they agree to be part of it.”
