Mackay Airport is deeply disappointed to hear the news from Tigerair today that they will be ceasing operation of their Mackay – Melbourne service from 7 September.
We have worked closely with Tigerair and, along with Mackay Regional Council and Mackay Tourism Limited, have invested significant funds to market the Melbourne – Mackay service.
It is unfortunate that the downturn in the market has reduced demand for these flights. Our relationship with Tigerair remains positive and we look forward to welcoming the airline back to Mackay Airport when the demand returns.
With many services to Brisbane from Mackay available each day it is still easy to access Melbourne within a reasonable time frame via the numerous connections available.
Passengers booked to travel on Tigerair services to and/or from Mackay from 7 September 2015, will be notified directly by the airline from this week and offered a free of charge transfer onto Virgin Australia services via Sydney or Brisbane, a full refund, or credit to fly with Tigerair at another time.
