Fancy a festive holiday that’s both easy and affordable? Bonza has launched its first ever direct flights between Mackay and the Gold Coast.
The inaugural service landed at Mackay Airport shortly before 8am on Thursday 16 November, kickstarting the new route which will operate three times per week on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.
It has been close to 10 years since a direct service operated between the two destinations. The new Bonza flights will inject thousands of additional seats into the Mackay market each week.
Mackay Airport Head of Operations Adrian Miles said the new service had come at an ideal time. “We are thrilled to have these new direct Bonza flights starting in November, joining the other services to Melbourne and the Sunshine Coast,” he said.
“It means travellers across Queensland can plan to make the most of their festive season break, whether taking a holiday or visiting family and friends.”
“Both Mackay and the Gold Coast offer spectacular attractions and activities, but they’re also quite unique. While Mackay locals might head to the Coast for adventure parks or surf, travellers from the Gold Coast and northern NSW can now easily visit our region to experience our untouched natural highlights, like Cape Hillsborough, or discover our world-class fishing and beachside camping.”
“These new services are also expected to bring a welcome boost to the local economy, particularly during the longer festive holiday period when visitors have more options to extend their stay in region.”
Flights start from just $59 one way and can be booked now through the Fly Bonza app.
Bonza Chief Executive Officer Tim Jordan said: “Yesterday, we got wheels up for the first time from our new base on the Gold Coast. Today, we are thrilled to start connecting the Goldie with Mackay as we continue our mission of connecting communities at affordable prices.”
North Queensland Airports Group (NQA), owner and operator of Mackay Airport, has been working closely with Bonza for several months to land the exciting new route.
“Today’s new flight adds to the services we already operate into and out of Mackay including Melbourne (Tullamarine) and Sunshine Coast,” Mr Jordan said.
“We thank North Queensland Airports for their ongoing partnership.”
